Currently serving as the Department Head of Investment, Mr. Hassan brings deep, specialized knowledge to the firm’s most intricate cases. His strong expertise is anchored by a successful track record of structuring high-net-worth investments, navigating complex land dispute resolutions, and advising on sophisticated corporate matters. By leveraging his specialized training in surveying and banking foundation, he provides highly strategic insights into both financial and property-related challenges.

Md. Mehedi Hassan completed his Bachelor of Laws and dual Master of Laws degrees from reputable institutions in Bangladesh. Prior to taking on his current leadership role at the firm, he built a robust and extensive career spanning the banking, financial, and corporate sectors, where he specialized in managing complex legal affairs and land administration.

Equipped with specialized Aminship (Surveyor) and Banking Foundation training, and enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Mr. Hassan brings a highly practical and multifaceted approach to the law. He currently serves as the Department Head of Investment.

Land & Real Estate Transactions

Acquisition & Due Diligence

  • Conducted complex land due diligence involving a high-value commercial transaction of USD $2 Million.
  • Conducted comprehensive due diligence of 695 acres of land for a solar power company based in Mauritius, and 768 acres for a leading local private commercial bank.
  • Regularly engaged by a top MNC & retail brand operating in the RMG sector for M&A (Land Acquisition) involving industrial land near Dhaka, conducting meticulous searches spanning 25 years of ownership chain across the Sub-Registry, AC Land, and DC offices.
  • Advised a major Australian discount department store chain on complex building and construction due diligence involving legal compliance with the Building Code and Fire Safety of a commercial building in a prime Dhaka location.
  • Assisted a reputed real estate developer in a number of complex transactions involving joint ventures, the sale of residential apartments and commercial outlets, and matters involving the ownership and operation of common areas.

Economic Zones & Commercial Leases

  • Involved in the acquisition of 10.0 acres of developed land situated in the Mirsarai-Feni Economic Zones under the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA), advising and negotiating critical lease terms.
  • Conducted due diligence on several upcoming economic zones for a major Japanese company establishing a tobacco facility, advising on investment options, exits, repatriation, and taxation within EPZs and SEZs.

Dispute Resolution

Land & Property Disputes

  • Representing high-net-worth clients in the lower and higher judiciary involving disputes over a contested heba deed, partition, demarcation, and the ownership of a multi-storied commercial building in a major location in Dhaka.
  • Advised and assisted a major Hong Kong-based MNC regarding disputes over the purchase of 50+ acres of land subject to acquisition rights by the Ministry of Land, navigating complex issues of misrepresentation, non-disclosure, and promissory estoppel.
  • Assisted clients in resolving disputes for several landowners against a renowned land developer involving delays in payment and the construction of a commercial building at Gulshan Avenue.
  • Acted for a building society of a large commercial hub in Dhaka, successfully securing an injunction from the Joint District Court to halt illegal lease-related renovation works and unauthorized heavy equipment installation by a renowned shopping mall.
  • Successfully handled complex disputes involving the rights of a landowner, developer, and lending bank to receive rent from a commercial tenant, litigating before the rent control tribunal and the District Judge Court.

Organization Plan 

A Head of Department is a partner-level position at Rahman’s Chambers. The person, in addition to being an experienced and accomplished member of his/her relevant Team, is also in charge of overseeing the work of the entire department, managing, handling, keep track of any/all legal affairs related to his/her department and also supervising the Associates of the Firm being assisted by (if any) Deputy Head within the same Department.
