Ms. Tanzina Sharmee

Deputy Head of Shipping Department (Wet)


Ms. Tanzina Sharmee, Advocate Supreme Court of Bangladesh, have significant expertise in the area of Shipping and dispute resolution. She works from Chittagong office & appears before cases pending in Chittagong court involving admiralty, banking, commercial and international trade. She was involved with a number of major admiralty cases handled by the firm. 

She is the deputy head of Shipping Department (Wet) which is ranked under Shipping by Chambers and Partners 2023 Asia Pacific Guide.  The editorial says: “Rahman’s Chambers has a specialist shipping law practice in Bangladesh, covering the full scope of maritime issues including ship arrests, marine insurance, bills of lading and admiralty. Ms. Tanzina Sharmee, completed LL.B & LL.M from Premier University, Chittagong, Bangladesh. She is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Ms. Sharmee has several years of experience working on legal matters in cooperate Firms and under notable practitioners. She also assists the firm in handling shipping matters which are originated in Chittagong. Ms. Sharmee appeared as counsel in both higher and lower judiciary particularly in Chittagong in different civil, banking and commercial matters. She joined the Chambers in 2020. Ms. Sharmee is a deputy head of Shipping Department and a senior member of taxes and finance department. She is a Senior Associate and a senior member of District & Magistrate Court team. Shipping 

  • Was involved with the admiralty suit filed for Hapag-Lloyd, in a dispute arising out of an allision with a gantry crane of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA). The matter was particularly complex as the CPA exercised its statutory power to claim loss & damages and the same has been challenged before the Hon’ble Admiralty Court successfully and the vessel was released on furnishing of security instead of paying in full & final satisfaction of the claim raised by CPA
  • Assistance provided for successful arresting of a container vessel at Chittagong port berthing for its alleged involvement with causing damage to a Fire Truck imported for CAAB for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka due to negligent discharge operation.
  • Was involved with the admiralty suit for Integr8 Fuels Inc, U.K. for breach of terms for the supply of Bunker quality against the local supplier.
  • Advised client on salvage operation in Chittagong port.
  • Was involved with the admiralty suit filed by OOCL for recovering freight and charges related dues from a local shipper.

Dispute Resolution 

  • Successfully argued before Artha Rin, District judge Chittagong in several cases involving banking matters. 
  • Successfully argued before several Chittagong courts in several cases involving international trade matters, rent control etc. 

Ms. Sharmee has contributed to the Overview of Bangladeshi Arbitration and Maritime Law Practice Guides. The commentary on this sector provides expert insights on the industry’s regulatory authorities, companies’ legal risks, cross-jurisdictional issues and more.
