Install more scanners at the airport

At the urge of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the government is going to repair the explosive detection systems (EDS) for a better screening of the export-oriented cargo at the airport in the Capital.

Although more scanner installation has become necessary to speed up the process of the scanning of export cargos. The apparel apex trade body has requested for the same for the exact reason.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan initially made the request to repair the existing EDS which were totally inactive despite being in operation. The President made the request in a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Md. Mokammel Hossain.

Due to the failure to take the validation from the European Union, the two newly installed EDS machines in the airport could not be made operational. Because of that, the RMG exports are being hampered, as said by the BGMEA leaders.

The BGMEA leaders also requested for a spacious parking lot to keep the freights after scanning, steps to stack RMG goods in the cargo shed for the ease of doing business. Their other demands included not to charge demurrage fees for the delay in releasing goods in the cargo village.
