We have handled disputes involving denial of seniority of section of employees of Bangladesh Bridge Authority. The issues came under the spotlight are  issuance of recruitment circular indirectly having discriminatory effect on a section of employees violating the service rules applicable.

  • Advised and dealt with a complex dispute and claim involving the accidental death of a worker of a Taiwanese client at a garments industry by taking steps as per labour law and before the labour court.

  • Successfully resolved a labour court case filed by an ex-employee for How Are You Textile Industry Ltd.
  • Assisted a major Japanese client in reaching an out of court settlement in complex litigation arising from labor disputes.

Practice Guide- Dispute Resolution (Labour Disputes) 

Labour and employment legal issues are very common in the business sector of Bangladesh. Whether it is a small enterprise or giant MNC dealing with employment law is a regular affair for them. Legal assistance is often non only for labour and employment related transactions but regularly in labour court and tribunals. Due to increase of awareness of the rights and obligations and trade union activities under Employment laws, non-compliances are often challenged by filing cases in labour courts. Such Litigation are common not only in industries like garments and textiles who employs huge workers but also in other business organizations like MNCs, local companies. Companies are increasingly becoming more and more compliant. Besides, accidental cases for compensation, cases involving senior employees are also increasing as labour rules almost eliminated the distinction between  worker and non-workers. 

The chambers have advised a major Japanese Textile Manufacturer and a Sewing Machines Manufacturer company with termination of senior management and also participated in the conciliation meeting successfully.
